Kerry C. Duggan

Founder & Managing Partner

Kerry C. Duggan (she/her) is a Founding & Managing Partner of SustainabiliD, a sustainability expert, corporate board director, angel investor, faculty member, national political advisor, and the former climate advisor to President Joe Biden.

A strategic integrator, she builds bridges and makes connections across disparate sectors and communities, finding creative new paths for the speed of implementing robust and equitable climate action plans.

Known as “climate MacGyver,” Duggan founded SustainabiliD in 2017 to serve two distinct sets of customers:

1) CEOs and C-Suites leaders of well-established institutions: coaching them on policy, technology, community engagement and leadership opportunities.

2) Innovative climate tech entrepreneurs: getting them up to speed on the policy landscape while removing barriers to their deployment at gigaton-scale.

Kerry C. Duggan is a Founder & Managing Partner, sustainability expert, corporate board director, angel investor, faculty member, national political advisor and the former climate advisor to President Joe Biden.

In 2017, Duggan founded SustainabiliD to serve two distinct sets of customers: 

1) CEOs and C-Suites leaders of well-established institutions: coaching them on policy, technology, community engagement and leadership opportunities.

2) Innovative climate tech entrepreneurs: getting them up to speed on the policy landscape while removing barriers to their deployment at gigaton-scale.

Duggan is a public board director (NASDAQ:PESI) and serves on several climate tech advisory boards. She is on Faculty at the University of Michigan’s (U-M) School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and was named the founding Director of the U-M SEAS Sustainability Clinic in Detroit. 

In 2021, Duggan was appointed to the Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board (SEAB). In 2020, Michigan's Governor Whitmer appointed her to the Council on Climate Solutions, and more recently, to the bipartisan Growing Michigan Together Council. Duggan previously served on the Biden-Harris Transition Team for the Energy Department (DOE). She was one of five Biden delegates, alongside Gina McCarthy and Climate Envoy/ Secretary John Kerry, on the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force.

From 2010-2017, Duggan served in the Obama-Biden Administration, at the White House as climate policy advisor for then Vice President Joe Biden and deputy of President Obama's Detroit task force, and earlier at DOE as Secretary Moniz's Liaison to the City of Detroit and as a Director inside EERE. She came to DOE from national LCV and currently serves on the Michigan LCV board.

Duggan was named to Crain’s Detroit Business prestigious “40 Under 40” and the inaugural “Notable Leaders in Sustainability” lists, and her work has been covered in NYT, CNN, E&E News, Bloomberg, Crain’s Detroit Business, The Detroit News & Detroit Free Press, Vox, Huffington Post, Scientific America, GreentechMedia, Inside Climate News, The Japan Times, Grist, WDET, and Politico.

A daughter of the Great Lakes, she attended Detroit Country Day School, went on to Division I basketball scholarships at SJU (NYC) and later UVM, where she completed her BS in environmental studies. She earned her MS in natural resource policy & behavior from U-M.
